Abstract

As an ideological and political concept, a reform frequently creates an excitement for change rather than a real transformation. In relation to how the teaching-learning process is regulated, the ESFHE (European Space for Higher Education) entails a process in which the teacher is positioned as the driver and facilitator and not just as the source of knowledge. At the School of Nursing of the University of Alicante, a new experience has been in progress for the last eight years whereby two subjects, Mental Health Nursing and Community Intervention Nursing, are being combined into one virtual subject: Integrated Nursing, which has made it possible to set in into motion innovative resources aimed at elaborating joint strategies for family and community intervention that embrace the complex realities of communication, dialog and interaction, from an integral and integrated perspective, based on experience, reflection, observation and respect. This experiences concludes that students are prepared to gradually take in the contents of the subjects and to progressively develop their competencies, to become directly involve in the learning-teaching process, to develop communication skills, to generate a reflective practice and a critical analysis. Students that have participated in this experience have experienced an increasing satisfaction with the work done and the results obtained, which encourages them to continue with  the same dynamics.
