Abstract

The behavioural pattern or "conduct "of nursing professionals have an inevitable impact on the relationship established with the end-user, the family and the rest of health care professionals. These patterns are the fundamental axis on which all therapeutic, health care and care interventions revolve. Because of this, and given the importance that developing qualities, skills and knowledge have for us, as teachers of the subject "Human Relations in Nursing Care", we decided to conduct this study. The aim is to give some thought to the attitudes defining the nursing profile and to analyse the perception that a third year student has on the qualities that a nurse should have to establish an adequate therapeutic or support relationship. To clarify this, we approached the students with the following questions: what qualities do you think a nurse should have? And what would you ask of a nurse? The results indicate that empathy, professional competence, and the use of the appropriate language are the most popular qualities. However, we look at the doubtful comprehension of the aspects that conform certain qualities. To conclude, emphasis is placed on the strengthening of these qualities through the formation of concepts such as empathy, autonomy and capacity for analysis.
