Abstract

This work is a reflection on the management of nursing care in elderly patients under hemodialysis, highlighting the needs of these patients.  The analysis was based on the concept of care management, defined as a wide process that encompasses actions relating to health care delivery, education, research and administration.  Several different works on this topic were reviewed, revealing that the concern about “mechanization of care” is a common factor in most of them.  The concern about the “nursing work process” is also relevant, justified by the increase in the incidence and prevalence of hemodialysis users in Brazil.  Hence, for all these reasons, aspects relating to the management of nursing work,  that is, the nursing process, should be addressed in a convergent way (5), given the diversity of specialised and complex care that these patients require due to their age, in addition to  their chronic renal disease.
