Abstract

The progressive extension of advanced Nursing practice throughout the world has generated a diversity of approaches in the genesis and development of these nurses that is not exempt of controversy and conceptual ambiguity. In the different experiences developed, initiatives have converged that attempted to address the shortage of doctors or the generation of new services for a continuously increasing and demanding­ demand of care or an attempt to maximize the efficiency, while simultaneously generating a powerful element for the improvement of nursing professional development.
From these perspectives of analysis, along the article how to contex­tualize in Spain these dimensions is reviewed. Later, an analysis of the various barriers of conceptual, regulatory and legislative, trai­ning and competence, as well as organizational and professional will be developed. Barriers that Spanish nurse face to consolidate these roles in our context.
