Abstract
CPR (Cardio pulmonary resuscitation) can restore cardiac and respiratory function in some patients, whereas in other patients it is not effective to avoid death or, at worse, it causes an anoxic-ischemic brain lesion. This leads to the need to have to make a decision not to reanimate those patients that present severe pathologies or nil therapeutic perspectives. This decision forms part of normal healthcare daily routines. However, this decision must be taken carefully and based on properly reasoned criteria, both from the point of view of scientific and technical correction as well as from the ethical perspective involved in the taking and execution of this sort of decisions. This article aims to analyse the “do not resuscitate orders” from a socioethical perspective.
