Abstract
There is an almost obsessive need to find some sense to suffering and the feeling of loss. Finding some sort of answer significantly helps to live with the disease and to overcome it. The experience of suffering a condition makes us come face to face with the most pristine traits of our society. In this paper I will try to analyse briefly some of those traits, as I do not consider a therapeutic action involving care and rehabilitation, possible without taking such traits into account. This brings healthcare professionals and beloved ones face to face with the ill individual in this search for meaning. This specific activity is called “accompaniment”.
