Abstract
The figure of co-ordinator of clinical studies or data manager has become essential recently in the setting of clinical research. Its main function is to adapt clinical studies to routine hospital practice and to resolve the potential problems that might arise in such a manner that the data manager can serve as interface between the sponsor of the study and the principal investigator.
This is a work position frequently filled by nurses that has not yet been introduced in our country.
With the aim of letting people know what it means to be a clinical studies data manager, this article describes the experience of a nurse, a clinical trial coordinator, in the field of oncology, specifying the role and objectives of her duties in each of the phases of the clinical trial in which she participates.
