Abstract

Objective: the objective of the present article is to identify gender bias in care by the healthcare staff from the Oncology Unit of a hos-pital in Concepción, Chile, for male and female patients.
Method: qualitative ethnographic-type methodology was used, through non-participant observation and interview technique.
Results: healthcare results were characterized by the omission by the civil servant of the emotions of user and caregiver, an alteration in care privacy, the invisibilized role of the caregiver, their interaction with the civil servant and gender roles.
Conclusions: it stood out that the practices observed in healthcare professionals did not incorporate the differences of the female gen-der, supporting the existence of gender bias in oncologic healthcare in the population observed.
