Abstract
Male incorporation into nursing profession has resulted in a restructured thinking by society, teachers, professional teams and users about nursing profession, because a caring role has historically been assigned to women due to their "female characteristics".
Purpose: To interpret experiences reported by male nursing students during their professional education.
Methods: Qualitative investigation, with a phenomenological approach. Data collection was based on various techniques such as in-depth interview, participant observation, and field notes. As a tool, a guide including demographic questions, opinions, perception and learning was developed.
Results: Three important categories were found: the first one related to profession choice; the second involving experiences identification; and the third involving emotions.
Conclusions: Male professionals´ incorporation can widen nursing profession horizons with new ideas and through the introduction of different learning ways.
